GFG Projects was engaged by FKG Group Developments to design and construct a new regional facility for RDO Equipment in Emerald. The development includes a central office and showroom, alongside an integrated parts warehouse, workshop, oil store, and wash bay. Surrounding the facility is an extensive combination of concrete and gravel hardstand, display zones, and car parking, with landscaped areas completing the external works.
This purpose-built facility was designed to support RDO’s operational growth in Central Queensland, with functionality, flow, and durability at the forefront of the design.
Several challenges due to the project’s remote location and substantial size were overcome during construction, including an initial budget overrun in the ceilings and partitions trade. The GFG team resolved this by separating the package and procuring prefabricated steel frames, significantly reducing costs and recovering budget.
Another key challenge was the delayed supply of the site transformer, which risked impacting the final commissioning. By applying early and fast-tracking all required civil works, GFG was able to secure permanent power ahead of the expected Ergon Energy connection date.
Cost savings were also achieved early in the project by installing the perimeter fencing at the outset, eliminating the need for temporary fencing and improving site safety from day one.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, with strong engagement of local subcontractors and a positive working relationship established across all stakeholders.
