Obadare Fabrication Shed

In partnership with FKG Group Developments, GFG Projects delivered the second stage of the strategic upgrade and expansion of Obadare Group’s existing manufacturing facility in Toowoomba. The project was designed to increase the client’s fabrication capacity while supporting the continued growth of their operations servicing the resource sector across the Darling Downs region and beyond.

The project involved the construction of a new 1,254m2 fabrication workshop and a 398m2 blast booth facility, separated by a tilt panel wall within a steel-framed building. The facility incorporated multiple motorised roller shutters, a large industrial sliding door and two 16-tonne overhead gantry cranes to support heavy fabrication activities. The design also focused on creating an efficient and comfortable working environment through the inclusion of polycarbonate roof sheeting and roof ventilation to maximise natural light and airflow throughout the building.

Supporting infrastructure formed an important component of the project and included a dedicated slab for pipe racking, staff amenities, office and gauge room facilities, additional rainwater storage, reshaping of the existing swale drain, electrical upgrades, extended fire services, and two new crossovers with associated kerbing.

A key challenge throughout the project was delivering the works within a fully operational manufacturing facility. Maintaining Obadare’s day-to-day operations required careful planning, collaboration and staging to ensure minimal disruption to the client’s business.

To maximise available operational space, the project team established the construction site amenities within the neighbouring FKG property and arranged personnel and vehicle access through the adjacent Ezyquip driveway, rather than through Obadare’s main entrance. This approach preserved valuable yard space and allowed the continued movement of large drill rigs and heavy equipment throughout the construction period.

Close coordination with the client was also required during the installation and commissioning of the new blast booth facility. As part of Obadare’s broader upgrade program, the new blast booth needed to be fully operational before the existing facility could be decommissioned and replaced with a new paint booth. Achieving this outcome required detailed planning and coordination between multiple stakeholders to ensure the transition occurred without interrupting the client’s operations.

Additional planning was also undertaken during the construction of the new site entry, roadworks and surrounding civil infrastructure to minimise impacts on vehicle movements and daily manufacturing activities. Through ongoing communication and collaboration with the client, the project team successfully delivered the works while maintaining a safe and efficient operating environment.

GFG Projects was proud to partner with FKG Group Developments and Obadare Group to deliver a modern manufacturing facility that increased operational capacity, improved workflow and positioned the business for continued growth well into the future.
