Hillman’s Transport Warehouse

To support the continued growth of their operations, Hillmans Transport engaged GFG Projects to deliver a new warehouse and office facility at their existing site. The project involved the design and construction of a purpose-built warehouse with an attached office building, along with associated civil works to integrate the new facility with the site’s existing infrastructure.

The new facility was designed to improve operational efficiency while allowing for future growth. Key features of the development include a dedicated truck loading dock, a large northern-facing 10-metre cantilever awning to facilitate loading and unloading operations, and a new concrete driveway connecting the building with the site’s existing entry and exit gates.

In addition to the core building works, the project incorporated several features designed to enhance the long-term functionality of the facility. This included provision for future fire sprinkler systems to allow increased storage capacity within the warehouse, a 40kW roof-mounted solar PV system to support energy efficiency, as well as CCTV and security systems and automated entry and exit gates to improve site access and security.

During the early stages of the project, the team identified an opportunity to improve the civil works approach. The original building levels required cutting into the existing hardstand, which had been constructed with a Tensar underlay system. This would have required significant remediation works to maintain the integrity and performance of the hardstand.

Working collaboratively with the client and project consultants, the team instead raised the levels of the site. While this approach involved a small amount of additional material costs, it avoided extensive remediation works and ultimately provided a more efficient and practical outcome for the project.

The project was delivered ahead of the contract program and under budget, reflecting the strong collaboration between the client, consultants and the GFG Projects team throughout the delivery process. GFG Projects is proud to have partnered with Hillmans Transport on the delivery of this facility, which strengthens the client’s operational capabilities and supports their continued growth.
